BL Novel 'Sekigae' Gets Live-Action Drama, Worldwide Streaming

The award-winning BL novel 'Sekigae Shitara, Doyura Ushiro no Otoko ga Ore no Koto Suki Rashii' (When We Changed Seats, It Seems the Guy Behind Me Likes Me) is getting a live-action drama adaptation. It premieres August 7, 2026 on BS Fuji in Japan and will stream worldwide.

Konishi Eito and Gennosuke star as two high school students whose relationship shifts after a seat change. Konishi plays the ordinary, pure-hearted Mayama Hare. Gennosuke plays the popular Asamiya Kosei, who harbors strong feelings for the boy now sitting in front of him.

Additional cast members include Hiramoto Ken from DXTEEN and Iijima Hayate from SUPER★DRAGON. Iijima plays a calm classmate who observes the central pair.

SUPER★DRAGON provides the drama's theme song, 'NPC'. The opening song, 'Hakugei' (White Whale), is an original track written for the series by the unit Kimi no Virus.

The series is based on the novel by Mashiroito, which won the top prize in the first Novema! BL Short Story Contest.

In Japan, the drama will air weekly on BS Fuji starting August 7. It will be available for catch-up on FOD and TVer. A separate worldwide streaming plan will be announced at a later date.

Music from the series, including tracks by SUPER★DRAGON and Kimi no Virus, is available on global platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
