Drama 'MISS KING' Wins Top Prize at Germany's World Media Festival

The ABEMA and Netflix original drama series 'MISS KING' won three awards, including the Grand Prix, at the World Media Festival 2026 in Germany. It is the first entertainment program in the festival's history to receive the top prize.

The festival's jury stated the win reflects how entertainment formats are gaining creative ambition, cultural importance, and international strength. The awards given were the intermedia-globe Grand Prix (overall winner), the Grand Award for entertainment, and a Gold award.

The World Media Festival, founded in 2000, is one of Europe's largest and most prestigious competitions for television, advertising, and web content. This year's 27th edition received entries from 34 countries.

'MISS KING' is a human drama starring Non as Asuka Kunimi, a woman whose life was stolen by her genius shogi player father. Driven by deep hatred, she uses her talent and willpower to reclaim her life. The story is set in the traditional world of shogi and explores themes of female empowerment and mental strength.

Non, known for her transparent image, departs from type to play a dark hero consumed by anger. The cast also includes veteran actors Naoto Fujiki, Kana Kurashina, Kaoru Okunuki, and Shido Mori.

Director Seita Yamagishi said he was moved that the energy of the heroine, who turns despair into hope, reached many people beyond borders. Producer Yuichi Sakurai of Soket credited the cast and staff for the honor.

The drama is streaming on Netflix globally and on ABEMA in Japan. The first episode is available for free on the ABEMA Drama YouTube channel.
