Ken Yasuda Joins Cast of Anime 'Hikuidori: Ushu Boro Tobi-gumi'

Ken Yasuda has joined the voice cast of the currently airing anime Hikuidori: Ushu Boro Tobi-gumi (Fire-Eating Bird: The Ushu Ragtag Fire Brigade). His role as the mysterious Hidetsuke was revealed in the end credits of the series' seventh episode.

Hidetsuke is a key figure in the story who has appeared in several episodes. He harbors a grudge against the fire brigade due to a past incident.

In a comment, Yasuda said reading the script was exhilarating. He noted the voice actors' detailed breathing and vocal control during recording were instructive.

The anime, based on a hit novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Shogo Imamura, follows former elite firefighter Motoaki Matsunaga as he rebuilds a disgraced fire brigade in Edo-period Japan.

The announcement was paired with details for the upcoming Episode 8, titled "The Fox's True Identity." A synopsis describes a series of mysterious blazes with pale blue flames plaguing Edo. The brigade discovers marks left at the scenes point to an unknown arsonist called "Fox Fire."

The main voice cast includes Yuichiro Umehara, Shuichiro Umeda, Subaru Kimura, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Kensho Ono, and Ayaka Miyoshi. Kenjiro Tsuda, Koji Yusa, and Junichi Suwabe also feature in supporting roles.

Hikuidori: Ushu Boro Tobi-gumi is streaming internationally on platforms including Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video. New episodes are released weekly.

The series is directed by Hiroshi Yasumi, with character designs by BILBA and music by Yasuharu Takanashi. Animation production is handled by SynergySP.
