kiOra Announces Global Debut Single 'Coco' with Top Producers

The new girl group kiOra will release their debut single 'Coco' worldwide on August 8. The track is the first piece of their 'TOKYO HYPER CITY POP' concept, which blends hyperpop and city pop.

The group recently performed their first overseas show as the opening act at the CENTRAL MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 1.

The core producers are her0ism, known for work with LISA and XG; Yaeji, who has collaborated with Charli XCX and remixed Utada Hikaru; Mechatok, a hyperpop producer from Berlin; and Japanese songwriter Kana Oka, who has written for BTS and Namie Amuro.

Additional production involved Los Angeles-based songwriter Chelsea Warner, known for EXO and (G)I-DLE. Recording took place at IRKO's StudioBeat3, with vocal production handled by director Ashley Alisha.

The single's title draws from the similar sounds of the English phrase 'in my core' and the Japanese phrase 'ima coco' (meaning 'here and now'). The song is described as an anthem about moving forward without fear of being unfinished.

The music video for 'Coco' is scheduled for release on August 9. The group was slated to perform at HEAD IN THE CLOUDS in Los Angeles on August 8, but that appearance has been canceled.
