Studio Kafka, known for The Ancient Magus' Bride, will produce the anime. Kozo Terasawa directs, with Takahiko Abiru handling character design and animation direction.

The story is set in a near-future Japan where civilization has collapsed. The nation has split into three warring states. A low-ranking local official named Sumi Mitsumi uses his vast knowledge and silver tongue to pursue the goal of reunifying the country.

The manga has sold over 700,000 copies. It is serialized on Shogakukan's Manga One app and the web comic site Ura Sunday.

The main voice cast includes Kensho Ono as Sumi Mitsumi, Asami Seto as Azumamachi Kiki, Takashi Nagasako as Heiraki, and Megumi Han as the narrator.
