Pan Dorobō Anime Reveals Cast and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Theme Song at Fan Event

The 'Pan Dorobō' picture book series held its first major fan event on April 5. The event revealed that Ayaka Asai will voice the titular bread thief and that Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will perform the ending theme song.

A new promotional video was screened at the event, showing the character's antics as he steals bread from a bakery.

Author Keiko Shibata attended the event, expressing both nerves and excitement about the adaptation. She noted the anime's ability to depict subtle movements, like a floating baguette, that are difficult to convey in a static picture book.

Voice actress Ayaka Asai, known for roles in 'Sound! Euphonium' and 'The Idolmaster', made a surprise appearance to confirm her casting. She detailed her approach to capturing the character's mischievous, expressive nature, even adding an ad-libbed "sucha" sound.

Pop artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu also took the stage to announce her involvement. She described the ending theme as a song she hopes children will sing along to, revealing that producer Yasutaka Nakata gave specific direction on how to pronounce the word "pan" (bread). As a parent, she reads the books to her child daily.

The event celebrated multiple milestones: the series' sixth year, the first anniversary of its official fan club, and the recent establishment of April 16 as "Pan Dorobō no Hi" (Pan Dorobō Day). A registration certificate for the commemorative day was presented during the event.
