Popular Light Novel 'Witch and Mercenary' Gets 2027 TV Anime

The battle fantasy light novel series Witch and Mercenary will receive a TV anime adaptation in 2027. The series, published under Micro Magazine's GCN Bunko imprint, has sold over 1.5 million copies.

The story originated on the web novel platform Shousetsuka ni Narou, where it amassed over 110 million page views and 390,000 total evaluation points. The light novel series is written by Chouhoukiteki Kaeru and illustrated by Kanoyo Benchi.

The anime is scheduled to air nationwide on the Nippon TV network in 2027. Official accounts for the adaptation have been launched on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.

The plot follows Jig, a mercenary tasked with slaying a witch, the last unknown entity on a continent where magical beasts and sorcery have vanished. After a fierce battle, he wins but loses his purpose for killing her. As he leaves without delivering the final blow, the witch makes a request: she wants to live without being hunted. Jig accepts and decides to take her to a recently accessible foreign continent.

Seven volumes of the light novel are currently available. A manga adaptation is also being serialized.
