Sakaki Nao's 'Shisei no Toge' Selected for Short Shorts Film Festival 2026

The short drama Shisei no Toge (The Ridge of Life and Death), featuring a theme song by artist Sakaki Nao, has been selected for the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2026.

The period drama is based on an original story and script by author and comedian Naoshi Matayoshi. It stars Junki Totsuka as a disgraced samurai and Daisuke Kuroda as a mysterious ronin.

Sakaki Nao wrote the theme song "Mei Mei Mei" specifically for the project. The full 20-minute drama and a studio live version of the song are on YouTube.

The Short Shorts Film Festival runs from May 25. An online venue will operate from May 25 to June 30, with tickets available internationally for 15 USD. The award ceremony is on June 10; winners become eligible for Oscar nomination consideration.

The drama was produced under the Scrum Wave Music label, a joint venture between NTT Docomo Studio & Live and eggman.
