Shota Sometani's Controversial Film 'Haiyoshin' Premieres on Prime Video

The film 'Haiyoshin' (廃用身) begins streaming exclusively on Prime Video today, August 1. 'Haiyoshin,' starring Shota Sometani, is based on a novel by practicing physician Hisakabe Yoh.

It was previously described by some in the industry as "absolutely impossible to adapt." The story follows a clinic director, played by Sometani, who develops a radical and cost-effective treatment for elderly patients with paralyzed limbs deemed beyond recovery. The treatment spreads quietly among patients, yielding unexpected positive side effects.

An editor who hears rumors of the treatment approaches the director about publishing a book. Conflict erupts after an internal clinic whistleblower contacts a weekly magazine and an incident occurs at a patient's home.
