'Super Kaguyahime!' Anime Film Gets Theatrical Run After Netflix Success

The Netflix anime film 'Super Kaguyahime!' will have a limited one-week theatrical release in Japan starting February 20.

Director Kengo Yamashita's first feature film reached number one on Netflix's daily movie ranking in Japan the day after its release. It also charted in the global non-English film top ten.

Its soundtrack features songs from notable Vocaloid producers including ryo (supercell), kz (livetune), 40mP, and HoneyWorks.

A new commemorative trailer has been released alongside the theatrical announcement. The film is animated by Studio Colorido and Studio Chromat, the latter being a new studio led by Yamashita.

The story follows high school student Saya Koyori, who discovers a baby that rapidly grows into a teenage girl named Kaguyahime. The two begin working together as a music producer and virtual streamer in the online world 'Tsukuyomi.'

The voice cast includes Yuuko Natsuyoshi, Anna Nagase, Saori Hayami, and Miyu Irino. The theatrical run will include special events in Japan, such as a stage greeting on February 22 featuring cast members and the director.

'Super Kaguyahime!' remains available to stream worldwide on Netflix.
