Voice Actor Project 'DATE WARS' Releases 90s-Inspired 'CANDY TRIP' with Kahimi Karie

The music project 'DATE WARS' has released a new original song, 'CANDY TRIP,' performed by its 1990s-era vocal unit. The track was composed and arranged by Shibuya-kei pioneer Kahimi Karie.

The song features vocals from four voice actors portraying characters in the project: Marumero Nenekirimaru (CV: Ayumu Kotomiya), Shara Kitsunegasaki (CV: Cocona Natsume), Matatabi Kotetsu (CV: Takako Tanaka), and Shuro Kogarasumaru (CV: Rin Mizuki).

"We asked Kahimi Karie to handle the songwriting," said music producer Mino, who oversees the project's sound. "He brilliantly drew out the charms of the 90s team cast from a kitschy angle. The sound, colored by a gorgeous horn section, is exactly the kind of finish you'd expect from him."

Kahimi Karie noted the involvement of long-time collaborators, including keyboardist Hirohisa Horie, drummer GEN Hara, guitarist ASH, and trumpeter Yusuke Oda. He called the final result a "pure love song" that time-travels between the future and the 1990s.

The project is led by writer and producer Yuichiro Momose, known for 'Hypnosis Mic,' with character designs by manga artist Hanaharu Naruko.
