Classic Shoujo Manga 'Red River' Gets New Anime, Deluxe Reprint

The classic shoujo manga 'Red River' (Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori / Anatolia Story) is getting a TV anime adaptation. The series will premiere on Nippon TV on July 7, 2026, with a broadcast on BS Nippon TV the following day.

Publisher Shogakukan is releasing a deluxe reprint of the manga. The 'Aizoban' edition will span 10 volumes, with the first two scheduled for July 24, 2026.

The new edition features an A5 oversized format, fully rescanned pages, and a collection of color illustrations. Each volume will have a cover with metallic foil stamping.

Anime and Manga Details

The 'Red River' anime will air weekly. The manga, which sold over 20 million copies across 28 volumes during its original 1995-2002 serialization in Sho-Comi magazine, follows a modern Japanese girl transported to the ancient Hittite Empire.

Shogakukan's Sho-Comi magazine is running a three-issue promotion tied to the series. Issues 14, 15, and 16, releasing between June 19 and July 21, will each include special collectible seals featuring characters and art from the manga.
