Netflix's 'Cho Kaguyahime!' Launches Global VR Event and Crowdfunding

The Netflix-exclusive anime film Cho Kaguyahime! has launched a new fan project. An online VR event, the "Tsukuyomi Kanshasai," and a related crowdfunding campaign are now in development.

The event will recreate the film's virtual world, Tsukuyomi, as a free-to-access "garden" world on the VR platform VRChat. A 3D version of the main character Kaguyahime will host an online event within this space. The event will also be streamed for free on YouTube.

A crowdfunding campaign on the Japanese platform Soreosu will finance the VR world's construction and the event's production. The campaign offers limited-edition goods for pre-order. Details on the event schedule and goods will be announced later.

Cho Kaguyahime! is the feature film directorial debut of Kengo Saito, known for his opening sequences for series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. The film's soundtrack features songs from Vocaloid producers, including ryo (supercell), kz (livetune), 40mP, and HoneyWorks.

The film premiered globally on Netflix on January 22, 2026. Prior to its release, its trailer topped YouTube's trending charts and surpassed 15 million views. It reached the number one spot on Netflix's daily film rankings in Japan the day after its debut.

A 3D Kaguyahime recently performed at the "Sanrio Virtual Festival 2026" within VRChat's Virtual Sanrio Puroland. The first show on February 15 drew approximately 27,000 concurrent viewers, a record for the virtual theme park.
