The 2025 Anime Awards have revealed the standout titles of the year, with 'Gundam GQuuuuuuX' emerging as the top contender in multiple categories. Conducted by the Anime Data Insight Lab, the analysis used Google search volume and X (formerly Twitter) posts to determine the most talked-about anime of the year.

In 2025, 270 anime titles were broadcast in Japan, with 204 being new releases and 66 sequels. 'Gundam GQuuuuuuX' not only led the new releases but also topped the overall rankings, achieving the highest scores in both trend and fan engagement metrics. It recorded a fan score more than five times higher than the second-place title.

The top five new anime based on trend scores included:

  • 2. Takopi's Original Sin
  • 3. SAKAMOTO DAYS
  • 4. Nukitashi THE ANIMATION
  • 5. Medalist
Anime trend scores explanation

'Medalist' also featured prominently in the Dark Horse category, showing significant growth from its initial release. The Dark Horse Award, which measures growth from the first week's data, was claimed by 'Milky☆Subway Galaxy Express', showcasing a remarkable 31.2-fold increase in fan score and a 20-fold increase in trend score.

In the overall rankings, which included sequels, 'My Hero Academia FINAL SEASON' and 'The Apothecary Diaries Season 2' also performed strongly. The rankings highlighted the enduring popularity of established franchises alongside the success of new entries.
