SHAFT to Animate 'To You, the Mona Lisa of Gender' TV Anime, Teaser PV Released

The TV anime adaptation of the manga 'To You, the Mona Lisa of Gender' has revealed its main staff, lead voice actress, and a teaser promotional video. The series will be animated by studio SHAFT.

Chika Anzai will voice the protagonist, Himase Arima. Anzai is known for roles including Chisato Nishikigi in 'Lycoris Recoil' and Reina Kousaka in 'Sound! Euphonium'.

The teaser PV premiered at the AnimagiC convention in Mannheim, Germany on August 1. It is now available on YouTube.

Kana Harufuji will direct the series, with Nobuhiro Sugiyama as character designer and chief animation director. Yuki Hayashi, composer for 'My Hero Academia' and 'Haikyu.', will handle the music.

The manga by Sen Yoshimura, serialized on Square Enix's Gangan Online, has sold over 1 million copies. It is set in a world where people are born without a sex designation; around age 12, their bodies begin to change toward their desired gender, which is fixed by 14. The story follows 18-year-old high school student Himase, who remains the sole person without a defined gender.

The anime's official website and X (formerly Twitter) account are now live. No broadcast date has been announced.
