Kujira, cast as the calculating Empress Borakchin, voices characters in series like One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen. In a comment, Kujira expressed surprise and excitement at being cast in a historical series she was already a fan of, calling Borakchin a "new type of auntie role" for her.

The anime is produced by Science SARU (Devilman Crybaby, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) and adapts the award-winning historical manga by Tomato Soup. It is directed by Abel Gongora with series composition by Kanichi Kato.

The story follows Shitara, a young girl who loses everything to the Mongol Empire. Adopting the name Fatima, she infiltrates the royal court seeking revenge, forming a fateful bond with the Sixth Consort, Doregene.

The opening theme "Stella" is performed by SEKAI NO OWARI. The anime is currently airing in Japan.
