The story follows a lone alien who arrives on Earth after his home planet is destroyed. Taking the form of a university student, Ikki Hikaruishi (played by Ao Iwasaki), he joins the university's Astronomy Research Club. The club members are veterinary students who find themselves confronting monsters, questioning whether these giant threats can also be protected as living beings.

The series marks the 60th anniversary of the Ultraman franchise. Production notes describe it as a "special effects youth drama" about growth and the bonds formed between the alien and his new human friends.

Filming for the university scenes took place at Azabu University in Kanagawa, a school with a renowned veterinary program. University staff and professors consulted on the script and classroom scenes.
