Phil Loraine

DJ

DJ, producer & House Trained Records founder. Ministry of Sound veteran now based in Ibiza.

Phil Loraine is a respected DJ, producer, and label manager whose passion for electronic music was ignited during the early years of acid house on Merseyside in the UK. With a career spanning over two decades, Phil has established himself as a key figure in the underground house music scene through his work with House Trained Records and residencies at some of the world's most prestigious venues.

Early Career & Musical Roots

Growing up on a diet of mixtapes and late-night radio in Merseyside, Phil developed his craft after borrowing a friend's Technics turntables in 1990. His dedication to perfecting beat mixing led to early breakthrough performances at Manchester's 10,000-capacity venue Bowlers, followed by a residency at The Void in Stoke, where he shared lineups with legendary DJs including Graeme Park, Judge Jules, and Tall Paul.

London Years & House Trained

After relocating to London in 2001, Phil secured a marketing position at Def Jam/Universal, working on campaigns for major artists including Mariah Carey, Ja Rule, Rihanna, and Jay-Z. During this period, he DJed at London's premier clubs including:

  • Ministry of Sound
  • The Cross
  • The Key
  • AKA/The End

Phil launched the House Trained club night with colleague Neil Terry, building a reputation through cutting-edge poster art and an unwavering music policy captured by their memorable tagline: "No shit on the floor!" The night gained significant recognition, with Mixmag declaring House Trained the "#1 top night in London."

Radio & Record Label

Phil's success led to a five-year commitment as a flagship show presenter on Ministry of Sound radio, broadcasting on Saturday nights and expanding his reach across Europe. This exposure paved the way for launching House Trained Records, initially through Universal with releases from Wolfgang Gartner, Denise Lopez, and DJ Disciple.

After reclaiming the House Trained brand as independent, Phil's first solo release was the massive track "Hardcore Uproar (Take Me Back)" by Together - a revamp of a UK rave anthem originally born at Manchester's legendary Hacienda nightclub.

Current Work & Ibiza Base

In 2020, Phil relocated to Ibiza, where he continues to champion the House Trained sound through his weekly radio show on Café Mambo Radio. He now works with Europa Music Management alongside Matt Jagger, whose roster includes Purple Disco Machine, Orbital, HOSH, David Penn, and Monolink.

Musical Style & Philosophy

Phil Loraine's musical approach reflects his deep roots in acid house and UK rave culture, while maintaining a forward-thinking perspective on electronic music. His work with House Trained Records showcases his commitment to quality house music that honors the genre's heritage while pushing creative boundaries.
