Creator Daidai Adapts Hit Horror Game 'Aquarium Doesn't Dance' Into Novel

The creator of the indie horror game Aquarium Doesn't Dance is writing a novel adaptation. Daidai, who developed the game alone over eight years, will author the text and create the cover art.

The novel expands on the story of the game, which has surpassed 800,000 downloads. A preview chapter is available on the novel's official note page, promising to delve into the protagonist Suzu's inner thoughts and scenes not covered in the original.

Frontier Works announced the project alongside a promotional video and the cover illustration. Further details, including the release date and the illustrator handling interior art, will be announced later.

About Aquarium Doesn't Dance

The free horror game follows Suzu, a girl who becomes trapped in a sinister version of the Bianca Aquarium with her friend Lulu. They must navigate the space while being hunted by aquatic monsters, aided by a soldier named Retro. The game was originally released in February 2024.

A paid version with character voices and new scenarios launched on Nintendo Switch and Steam in 2025. It features voice work by Tomoyo Kurosawa (Suzu), Yumiri Hanamori (Retro), Satomi Sato (Lulu), Rie Kugimiya (Kitty), and Tomoe Tamiyasu (Chris).
