Active Sumo Wrestlers Tamawashi and Tamashoho Make Voice Acting Debut in 'Tenmaku no Jaadugar' Anime

Active sumo wrestlers Tamawashi and Tamashoho will voice characters in the upcoming TV anime Tenmaku no Jaadugar. The series, animated by Science SARU, premieres July 4.

Tamawashi will voice Genghis Khan, founder of the Mongol Empire. Tamashoho will voice a Mongol soldier. Both wrestlers are Mongolian.

In a provided comment video, Tamawashi said the recording was difficult at first but he grew accustomed to it. Tamashoho, a self-described anime fan, called the experience fun and a valuable challenge.

The anime is based on the award-winning historical manga by Tomato Soup, serialized in Akita Shoten's Souffle magazine. It won the grand prize in the comic category at the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.

Science SARU, known for Devilman Crybaby and Dandadan, is producing the animation. The opening theme 'Stella' is by SEKAI NO OWARI.

The story follows Shitala, a young woman who becomes a prisoner of the Mongol Empire and vows to destroy it from within, and Dörgene, the Sixth Consort of the Third Prince, who harbors her own hatred for the empire.

The series will stream globally on platforms including Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video starting July 5. It will air on Japanese TV stations including TV Asahi.

The main cast includes Akari Sekine as Shitala and Ami Koshimizu as Dörgene. Yamada Naoko serves as chief director, with Abel Gongora as director.
