Anime 'BLACK TORCH' Casts Morikawa Toshiyuki, Okamoto Nobuhiko for July 2026 Premiere

The upcoming TV anime BLACK TORCH has announced two new voice cast members. Veteran voice actor Morikawa Toshiyuki will play Tengu, while Okamoto Nobuhiko will voice Kogami.

The announcements were made on stage at AnimeJapan 2026. Morikawa's character, Tengu, is a mononoke with power surpassing human intellect, a cold rationalist who believes in survival of the fittest. Okamoto's character, Kogami, is a young mononoke who acts alongside Tengu and is obsessed with obtaining the power of Rahu.

Morikawa commented that he aims to express Tengu's hidden passion and resolve while honoring the original work's spirit. Okamoto described Kogami as a character with a childlike heart beneath his ambitions.

The series premiere date was also confirmed. BLACK TORCH will begin broadcasting on July 4, 2026, on TOKYO MX and other stations.

The anime follows high school student Niro, a descendant of ninjas who can talk to animals. He encounters a wounded black cat, Rahu, who is actually a legendary mononoke. The story revolves around the various factions seeking Rahu's power.

The main cast also includes Suzuki Ryota as Niro, Ueda Yoji as Rahu, Chitose Sayaka as Kishimojin Ichika, and Suwabe Junichi as Shiba Ryosuke.

Directed by Mabiki Kei with character design by Suzuki Go, the series is animated by 100studio. The anime is based on the manga by Takaki Tsuyoshi, published by Shueisha.
