BL Novel 'Sekigae Shitara' Gets Live-Action Drama with Worldwide Distribution

The popular Boys' Love novel Sekigae Shitara, Douyara Ushiro no Otoko ga Ore no Koto Suki Rashii (When We Changed Seats, It Seems the Guy Behind Me Likes Me) will premiere as a live-action drama in August 2026.

The story follows high school student Aoyama Haru, played by Eito Konishi, who receives a love confession on a passed-back worksheet. The sender is his popular classmate Asamiya Kosei, played by Gennosuke. The series is based on Mashiro Ito's novel, which won the grand prize in the first Novema! BL Short Story Contest.

The drama will debut on BS Fuji in Japan on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 25:00 (effectively Saturday, 1:00 AM JST). It will stream exclusively on Fuji TV's FOD platform in Japan, with catch-up viewing available on TVer. Details for the worldwide distribution are pending.

Supporting roles feature Ken Hiramoto (DXTEEN) and Hayate Iijima (SUPER★DRAGON). The theme song is SUPER★DRAGON's track "NPC," while the opening theme is "Shirakujira" (White Whale) by Kimi no Virus, a song written specifically for the series.

Directors are Yuka Nakayama and Yudai Nara, with a script by Kento Goto. The production is handled by the Sekisuki Production Committee.
