CRYXIS Releases New Single 'Breathe Again'

CRYXIS released their new digital single, "Breathe Again," on July 3.

The track explores unstable relationships with things one cannot escape, such as love, dependency, and self-destructive impulses. It is built around heavy, sinking guitars, cold electronics, and a heartbeat-like beat, incorporating elements of shoegaze and breakcore.

Vocalist YUJU commented on the song's theme. "When you can no longer take care of yourself or rely on anyone amidst loneliness and vague anxiety, you sometimes cling to something in an unhealthy way," she said. "I poured in the feeling of wanting to breathe again, even within that suffocating sense of falling deeper the more you cling to a temporary light or salvation."

Producer and guitarist BUNNY focused on the sound design. "To express unease and unhealthiness, I was particular about choosing melodies and tones that sound fleeting and beautiful," BUNNY said. "I hope those with similar feelings notice the playful elements I incorporated and feel a sense of empathy."

The music video, directed by HIROHISA "l2iOT" NAKANO/CRYXIS, was filmed by the sea. It depicts a suffocating feeling of being swallowed by waves and the sensation of trying to breathe again through cold, stark visuals. The video premiered on YouTube at 8 PM JST on July 3.

BUNNY was the first Asian indie artist selected as a cover artist for Spotify UK's "misfits 2.0" playlist.
