CRYXIS releases Pride Month single 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'

The alternative unit CRYXIS will release a new single, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," on June 5, 2026. The track is timed for Pride Month and addresses themes of LGBTQ+ liberation and hope.

Inspired by The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, the song blends new metal and shoegaze with electronic elements. Vocalist YUJU described the track as a wish for the pain of oppressed people to transform into a force for positive change, rather than being consumed as mere trauma.

The "rainbow" in the song symbolizes a place built by those who have lived through pain and conflict, not a distant utopia. YUJU's lyrics carry a message of awakening from meaningless boundaries and traditions that only serve to bind people, aiming for a society where individual happiness and dignity are respected.

Producer BUNNY commented on the background of LGBTQ+ individuals being distanced from salvation within some traditional Christian values, stating a desire to "create a place where we can live safely, together, beyond the rainbow."

A lyric video for the song, directed by Omani-Indian creator fahad.k__edit, will premiere on YouTube at 9 PM JST on June 5, the same day as the digital release.

CRYXIS, formed in 2025 by vocalist YUJU and producer/guitarist BUNNY, has been featured by Slipknot's KNOTFEST and the event brand "Emo Nite." BUNNY was previously selected as the first Asian indie cover artist for Spotify UK's "misfits 2.0" curation.
