Junichi Suwabe Joins Japanese Voice Cast for 'Toy Story 5'

Voice actor Junichi Suwabe revealed he has a role in the Japanese dub of Disney/Pixar's 'Toy Story 5'. The announcement came during a live-streamed watch party for 'Toy Story 3' on Niconico Live.

The event featured Suwabe alongside fellow voice actors Toshiyuki Morikawa and Shuka Saito, as well as film writer Masamichi Yoshihiro. The group watched the 2010 film and shared commentary in real-time.

Suwabe disclosed his casting partway through the stream. "I've already seen a preview," he said, before confirming his involvement. He did not specify which character he will voice.

The film opens in Japan on July 3. The story centers on Jessie, Woody, and Buzz as they try to reclaim the attention of their owner, Bonnie, from a digital tablet.

During commercial breaks, the guests shared personal items that represented friendship, tying into the series' theme song 'You've Got a Friend in Me'. Morikawa showed a golf club, Suwabe his 1972 Datsun Fairlady Z, and Saito her essential in-ear monitors.

The live commentary ranged from technical insights on the film's CGI to emotional reactions. Viewers and guests alike reacted strongly to tense scenes, particularly the chaotic playroom sequence at Sunnyside Daycare.

The full stream, which aired on June 26, is available for time-shifted viewing on Niconico Live until July 26.
