Miki Matsubara's 'Mayonaka no Door' Hits 500 Million Spotify Streams, 7 Rare Tracks Get Digital Release

Miki Matsubara's 1979 city-pop classic "Mayonaka no Door ~stay with me" has surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify. It is the first Japanese song from the 20th century to reach that milestone.

The track is one of ten songs by a Japanese artist to achieve this on the platform. It has also been nominated for the Music Awards Japan 2026, over four decades after its initial release.

On Spotify, many of her other tracks have over 10 million streams. The B-side "WASH," released in 1982, has over 20 million.

Seven previously unavailable tracks are now being released digitally for the first time. They are part of six digital singles that became available on August 28, 2026.

The new releases include "Paradise Beach (Sophie's Theme)," composed by Haruomi Hosono of Yellow Magic Orchestra. The song was used in a Maxell cassette tape commercial featuring actress Sophie Marceau.
