Webtoon 'Teenage Mercenary' Gets 2027 TV Anime from J.C.STAFF

The action webtoon Teenage Mercenary (Nyugaku Yohei) will receive a TV anime adaptation in 2027. The series, which has surpassed 2.84 billion views globally, will be animated by studio J.C.STAFF.

Director Shingo Ono will oversee the series and handle series composition. Character design is by Koji Haneda, and the music will be composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, known for his work on Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill.

The story follows Soma Tatewaki, a former mercenary who returns to his hometown after a decade and enrolls in high school to protect his family and friends from the violence spreading through the city.

The original webtoon by YC and rakhyun launched in Japan on LINE Manga in April 2021. It ranked first in the service's annual rankings for both 2023 and 2024, accumulating over 940 million domestic views. The series is available in ten languages.

A teaser visual and promotional video have been released. The anime's official website and X (formerly Twitter) account are now live.

In Japan, LINE Manga is running a campaign from October 9 to 22, offering the first 30 chapters of the webtoon for free.
