TV Anime 'Seibetsu "Mona Riza" no Kimi e.' Reveals Cast, Staff at AnimagiC

The main cast and staff for the TV anime adaptation of the manga Seibetsu "Mona Riza" no Kimi e. were unveiled at AnimagiC 2026 in Germany. The teaser trailer and production details premiered at a panel on August 1.

Chika Anzai will voice the protagonist, Arima Hinase. The series is directed by Kana Harufuji, with character design by Nobuhiro Sugiyama. Yuki Hayashi, known for My Hero Academia, is composing the music.

Studio SHAFT is handling the animation. The studio's president, Mitsutoshi Kubota, noted this is SHAFT's first new TV anime series in some time.

The manga, written and illustrated by Sen Yoshimura, has sold over 1 million copies. It is set in a world where people are born without a sex. Around age 12, their bodies begin to change toward their desired gender, solidifying by 14. The story follows 18-year-old Hinase, who remains the sole "non-sexed" individual, as she navigates life and confessions from two childhood friends.

At the panel, Yoshimura conducted a live drawing. She said she watched the initial teaser footage about 30 times, particularly praising the moment Hinase opens her eyes.

Producer Manami Kabashima from CyberAgent explained the adaptation's origin. She was struck by the manga's two-tone turquoise and black printing.

The casting process was unconventional. Auditions were held with actor names and genders concealed on the tapes. Kubota stated Anzai was chosen unanimously.
