ABEMA's 'The Vacation Principle' Adds Cast, Sets Netflix Global Release

The ABEMA original drama The Vacation Principle (Bakansu no Hōsoku) has confirmed three new cast members for its opening episodes. The series, starring Kanna Hashimoto and Korean actor Choi Jung-hyup, begins streaming in Japan on July 27, 2026. It will be available worldwide on Netflix starting July 31.

Creators Tsuyoshi Itao, YOU, and Shōta Taniguchi join the cast. Their characters arrive at the seaside villa central to the story, disrupting the vacation of the main characters. The series is based on an original story by manga artist Akiko Higashimura, who also writes and directs.

Itao plays Jin Ichijō, a veteran actor hiding from a scandal. YOU plays his wife, Ryōko. Taniguchi plays Harufumi Masuda, a tabloid reporter pursuing the story.

Hashimoto plays Midori Hoshino, a woman who retreats to her grandmother's villa after losing her job. There she meets the mysterious caretaker, Saijō (Choi Jung-hyup). The "detox romance" series unfolds over one summer.

The drama will consist of 18 fifteen-minute episodes. In Japan, new episodes will stream for free on ABEMA every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8 PM JST, starting July 27.

The full cast includes Ryo Katsuji, Mizuki Yamashita, Aiko Kano, and Dori Sakurada. Higashimura, known for manga like Princess Jellyfish and Tokyo Tarareba Girls, makes her series drama debut with this project.
