Bajune Tobeta Produces 'Sergio Mendes Tribute' Album

A tribute album for Brazilian music icon Sergio Mendes, produced by Bajune Tobeta, is set for release on September 4, 2026. The digital album, titled 'Sergio Mendes Tribute', features 11 tracks and a lineup of international artists.

Gracinha Leporace, Mendes's wife and longtime musical partner, and Japanese bossa nova singer Lisa Ono are among the featured performers. Other contributors include Atom Heart, Saigenji, Fabian Reza Pane, and Paula Morelenbaum.

The project was produced under Tobeta's direction, blending bossa nova, samba, MPB, and electronica. The final track, 'Goodnight, Maestro', is a solo piano piece performed by Tobeta. The release date precedes Mendes's memorial date of September 5.

The tracklist includes new renditions of Mendes's classics like 'Mas Que Nada', 'Agua de Beber', and 'The Look of Love'. A related single, 'Mas Que Nada' featuring Gracinha Leporace, Black Prez, and Marianna Leporace, was released on August 18, 2026. It was recorded at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Productions studio in Los Angeles.

Bajune Tobeta is a composer and producer who began his career working with Ryuichi Sakamoto. He has released five solo albums and collaborated with artists including YMO's Yukihiro Takahashi, Taeko Onuki, and CHARA.

The album will be available on major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. It is released through the CROIX JAM label, a subsidiary of the wellness technology company CROIX.
