Koji Yakusho Stars in Netflix Comedy 'Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?'

Netflix has set a global premiere date for a new original series starring Koji Yakusho, with a script by Kankuro Kudo. The comedy, titled Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?, begins streaming worldwide on October 22, 2026.

The series follows Takasegawa Gen, a celebrated actor played by Yakusho, who returns to Japan after a successful London stage run. He finds that everyone, including his own family, has seemingly forgotten who he is. The story tracks his attempts to restart his life and career from zero.

The teaser trailer shows Takasegawa receiving a standing ovation for his King Lear performance at Shakespeare's Globe, only to later ask his entourage, "Did someone happen to mention me?"

A key visual element is Yakusho's transformation into seven distinct roles. His character is seen as a dignified King Lear, a host at a themed cafe wearing a cow headpiece, a background extra, a period drama firefighter, a yakuza henchman in a fur coat, and a sauna attendant performing an aufguss ritual.

The supporting cast includes Kento Kaku, Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Noriko Eguchi, Yumi Kawai, Masatoshi Hamada, Yuto Isomura, Shusaku Kamikawa, and Yoshi Yo. The series is produced by Akira Isoyama for THE SEVEN, with music by Shin Kono. Directors include Fuminori Kaneko, Takuya Sakagami, and Atsushi Watanabe.
