Light Novel 'The Monster Tamer's Daughter' Gets TV Anime Adaptation

The fantasy light novel Mamono Tsukai no Musume (The Monster Tamer's Daughter) will be adapted into a TV anime. The project was announced alongside the main staff, cast, and a teaser visual.

Anime key visual featuring the protagonist, Rein, in a forest.

The story follows Rein, a descendant of a legendary witch with the power to command monsters. She travels with Hakura, an adventurer known as a 'witch hunter,' and her slime companion, Ao. The anime is the first adaptation of a work from the Drecom Media Awards.

Project No.9 will handle animation production. The staff includes director Chihiro Kumano, series composition by Satoru Sugisawa, and character design by Akane Kasasagi.

The main cast from the novel's promotional video will reprise their roles. Miku Itomi voices Rein, Chiaki Kobayashi voices Hakura, and Akio Otsuka voices Ao.

Character visual of Rein, the protagonist.

Author Amato Damu expressed disbelief that the adaptation was happening, calling it a childhood dream. Character designer Shirabi congratulated the team and said they were looking forward to seeing the characters animated. Director Kumano described the work as having a nostalgic, dream-like quality.

A manga adaptation is also scheduled to begin serialization in September 2026. A preview of the first chapter is available on the Japanese web manga platform Drecomi+.

The official website and X (formerly Twitter) account for the anime project are now live. The third volume of the original light novel is set for release on July 10, 2026.
