Manga 'Kini Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta' Volume 5 Launches January 2027 Ahead of TV Anime

The fifth volume of Sumiko Arai's manga Kini Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta (The Person I'm Interested in Wasn't a Guy) will be released on January 13, 2027. The series has sold over 2.25 million copies worldwide.

Pre-orders for the standard edition and a special edition with merchandise are now open. The special edition includes an exclusive tote bag and two button badges featuring new art by Arai.

The manga follows two high school girls, Mitsuki and Aya, whose relationship deepens through a shared love of Western music. Mitsuki works at a CD shop while hiding her identity as a student.

The series won first place in the Web Manga category of the Next Manga Awards 2023 and second place in Takarajimasha's "Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2024" ranking. The author's combined social media following exceeds two million accounts.

Volume 5 continues the story after the girls graduate and begin living together. The narrative explores their first major conflicts as they navigate their new relationship.

A TV anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere in January 2027. The anime will be produced by CloverWorks, directed by Masafumi Ishihama, and feature Mariya Ise as Mitsuki and Akari Kitō as Aya. The opening theme will be Nirvana's "Breed."

The manga is published by KADOKAWA. Volume 5 will have 176 pages and a list price of 1,485 yen. The special edition is priced at 4,840 yen.
