Sega Launches Creator Playlist Series with Tomoya Ohtani

Sega's new music playlist series spotlights its in-house creators, starting with Sonic sound director Tomoya Ohtani. The first entry is "Tomoya Ohtani - Essential Works," a 100-track official playlist curated by the sound director for the Sonic franchise.

The playlist is available on Spotify and Apple Music. It features Ohtani's work across the Sonic series, titles like Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure and Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, and includes his arrangement work for Serani Poji.

In a statement, Ohtani reflected on the collection. "I've always prioritized the concept and challenge of each work over my own style," he said. "But lining up these 100 tracks, it feels like they all ended up sounding like 'Ohtani' music anyway."

Tomoya Ohtani joined Sega in 1999. He first served as sound director and lead composer for Sonic the Hedgehog in 2006. His track "Undefeatable (feat. Kellin Quinn)" from Sonic Frontiers ranked 15th in a 2023 U.S. report on popular Japanese music.

He also releases DJ mix albums and performs as a bassist, having taken part in the Sonic Symphony World Tour.
