YOASOBI Announces New Song 'KILLA' Based on Debut Novel

The novel Senpai o Koroshitai node Josou Suru (I Want to Kill My Senpai, So I Cross-Dress) is now available. Published by Suirinsha, the book is the debut work of author Mabyou Yoa, selected from the YOASOBI and Naoki Prize writers' "Hajimete no" Bungeibu program.

The story follows a second-year high school student who attempts to fulfill his crush's wish: to be killed by an "ideal beautiful girl" on graduation day. The novel is available physically and digitally in Japan.

YOASOBI has created a new song based on the book. Titled "KILLA," the track is scheduled for release before the end of the year.

Composer Ayase said the song was produced by turning the novel into music. Vocalist ikura described the protagonist's feelings as a mix of love, faith, and a reason for living, noting the story's unique texture of madness and sincerity.

Author Mabyou Yoa stated the work is her take on the "femme fatale" trope, influenced by author Junichiro Tanizaki. Editor Hisako Yoshida called the protagonist both funny and endearing, and highlighted the novel's updated take on Tanizaki's aestheticism.

The first chapter of the novel is available to read for free on monogatary.com. An interview with the author is also published on the site.

The "Hajimete no" Bungeibu program was launched in 2022 from a collaboration between YOASOBI and four Naoki Prize-winning authors: Rio Shimamoto, Mizuki Tsujimura, Miyuki Miyabe, and Eto Mori. A paperback collection of their collaborative stories, Hajimete no, was released on October 6.
