Tenchi Galaxy Kickstarter Hits Stretch Goals, Adds Japanese Dub

The Kickstarter campaign for Tenchi Galaxy, a new US-produced pilot anime based on the Tenchi Muyo! franchise, reached its initial $400,000 funding goal in two days. It has since unlocked multiple stretch goals, including funding for a Japanese language dub.

The project is produced by Armiger Entertainment and co-produced by Japan's Creative Minds. Series veteran Hiroshi Negishi is directing, with Toru Miura producing. Hololive English VTuber Nerissa Ravencroft will voice an original character.

The campaign launched on July 10 and met its first stretch goal of $450,000 for a Japanese dub on day three. Goals for a 4K version and a making-of documentary were also funded in the following days.

Tenchi Galaxy is described as a new story, separate from the existing Tenchi Muyo! GXP and Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki timelines. The 30-minute pilot will be produced in English, with the Japanese dub now confirmed.

The plot follows Tenchi and crew as they pursue a stolen artifact to a space pirate stronghold, where they are forced to participate in an intergalactic tournament. The story will reveal a hidden secret from Ryoko's past.
